What do you do at Mid-Cities?
I currently film, edit and produce videos for Mid Cities. I lead worship team rehearsals, lead worship on Sunday mornings, and teach a songwriting class to raise up the next generation of song writers in our church.
When did you feel called to ministry?
God called me to worship ministry when I was 18 years old. I was sitting in church on a Sunday night when I heard God's voice in my spirit say, "I have given you talents to play the piano and sing. I want you to use those talents for me and my kingdom." There was a neat confirmation that night from a man who was at the time my Sunday school teacher. He came up to me and asked, "God was doing something in you tonight, wasn't He?" I was blown away!
Over the next few months, my thoughts were that I would do this on the side next to my plans to be an engineer. About 6 months later, my plans fell apart. That's when I knew God was changing things in me. He birthed in me a passion like never before to pursue music and ministry. I left the university I was attending, and applied to another school to begin my journey of studying music and ministry.
When and why did you choose Mid-Cities?
When I first began to attend Mid Cities in 2004, I immediately felt that there was something special about this place. First of all, the people here were incredibly authentic and truly caring. I began to quickly see how important relationships were here, and that no matter what issues you had in your life, there were people that loved you and were willing to walk with you through those issues into victory. There was a freedom in worship and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit that enticed me to want more of who He was. I knew this was where God was planting me to grow in my faith.
I was asked to come on staff in November of 2005. I was delighted and began working as an assistant and soon fell in love with expanding the media work of the church. Then an opportunity opened up for me to be the full-time worship leader, and then later worship pastor.
What are you most excited about when it comes to your specific area of ministry?
I am most excited about teaching people the meaning of worship, how it relates to their relationship with God, and understanding the freedom it brings in our lives by connecting with God in this way. I am also passionate about writing worship songs for God, raising up worship song writers, and helping people grow in their musical gifts and talents.
Who are you, really?
I am married to Mistie, the coolest girl in the world. We are expecting our first baby in June, 2013. I love to build things and be outdoors with my family. We enjoy watching movies and playing games with friends. I am passionate about Christ and leading people through music to the heart of God.
