What do you do at Mid-Cities?
My primary job at the church is to oversee the business, finances, and human resources of the church. However, I occasionally build buildings, do actual "people ministry", and try to make the impossible happen. I like to think of myself as the guy that can make things happen and get things done.
When did you feel called to ministry?
I got saved when I was 18 years old and felt called to vocational ministry shortly after. I thought the Lord would have me start vocational ministry in my early thirties but He had different plans. I started working for Mid-Cities in the full time ministry at the age of 23. I love how God directs my steps according to His will and His glory!
When and why did you choose Mid-Cities?
After giving my life to the Lord in Lubbock Texas, I moved back to Midland and started looking for a church for the first time in my life. I tried some other churches around town but never felt the Lord calling me to those churches. I finally ran across the owner of a christian book store in town and after telling him my dilemma, he suggested that I try Mid-Cities. The moment worship started, I felt like God was telling me that I had found my home. I attended the membership class that same day and Mid-Cities has been my home ever since.
What are you most excited about when it comes to your specific area of ministry?
When I first started working for the church I attended a conference for church business and finance. At that conference there was a gentleman speaking at one of the sessions about the importance of overseers in the church. He opened up scripture and read Luke 16:10-11 which says, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?" It was verse 11 that hit me. The "true riches" of the kingdom that Jesus is talking about has nothing to do with monetary gain. The true riches are spiritual gifts, deliverance, & freedom in Christ.
From that moment on I knew that my job was to make sure that Mid-Cities was always a place where we would handle worldly wealth in a God-honoring manner. I get excited when I hear stories of people getting saved, lives being changed, and people discovering their spiritual gifts because I believe that God has done that, in part, because we honor Him with what has been given to us.
Who are you, really?
I am a husband to a wonderful wife. I am a father of 3 kids all born within 2 years and 9 months of each other. I have an MBA from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. I love to vacation with my wife, watch wrestling (the WWE kind), and play video games. I have loved all the Rocky movies since I was very young and actually starred (ok starred is a little strong) in the final Rocky movie, "Rocky Balboa."
