What do you do at Mid-Cities?
I have the privilege of ministering to children ages birth through kindergarten and I have the privilege of helping to lay the foundations of Biblical truths in their little lives!
When did you feel called to ministry?
My husband, Jerry and I were called to ministry when we were in our early 20s. We have served Jesus in the local church for over 30 years in full time and part time positions. About 7 years ago I began to have a burden to ‘equip the next generation of believers’. I began to write children’s curriculum and Vacation Bible Schools at that time as I continued teaching adult women through Sunday School and Women’s Retreats. My call to ‘Early Childhood Ministry’ began with a verse in Lamentations 4:4 that Jesus put on my heart. It said, “The tongue of the infant clings to the roof of its mouth for thirst; the young children ask for bread, but no one breaks it for them.”
When and why did you choose Mid-Cities?
One year, almost to the date that Jesus put this on my heart, Mid-cities called and ask me to pray about the Early Childhood Director position. As I was reading through my journal seeking God’s will I read, “Jesus, what are you calling me to do?” The next entry of my journal read “Children’s Ministry” (which I had underlined in blue marker) and the scripture in Lamentations was written next!! So, after teaching adult women for almost 20 years, God called me to teach preschoolers! And I love it!
What are you most excited about when it comes to your specific area of ministry?
I am excited to teach children the Truth found in God’s Word! Children have the ability to simply believe without having to understand! I believe each truth we teach is like a seed planted that will one day produce the fruit of righteousness as the Holy Spirit gives understanding in His time! I am excited to create a sense of awe and wonder in the hearts of children as we teach them about our amazing Lord and Savior! I am excited to teach children what it means to serve and worship our Lord Jesus!
Who are you, really?
On a personal note, I am the wife of Jerry Lewis, the mother of Jami Stotts and Jae Lewis, the mother-in-law of Camron Stotts and Lana Lewis, and of course, the Gigi of 10 wonderful grandchildren! I love to read, watch a good movie, and cook for others. I love spending time with my family, and hearing about what Jesus is doing in their lives! I love to study God’s Word, write children’s curriculum, teach children to serve and worship Jesus, and I love taking a book in the Bible and leading a group of ladies through it verse by verse discovering its Truths!
